Tickets are now on sale for selected events taking place during Jane Austen Regency Week, which returns to Alton and Chawton from Friday 19 June to Sunday 28 June 2026.

The annual festival celebrates the life and legacy of Jane Austen, who lived nearby in Chawton and brings together visitors and residents to enjoy a varied programme of Regency-inspired activities across the local area.

Tickets are now available for several of the festival’s popular events, including:

  • Regency Dance Workshop – Saturday 20 June – a chance to learn or practise Regency dance steps with live music and guidance from experienced dancers before the evening ball.

  • Jane Austen Midsummer Ball – Saturday 20 June – an elegant evening of Regency dancing with live music and Hampshire Regency Dancers leading the dances.

  • Alton Country Ball – Saturday 27 June – a sociable evening of country dancing offering a lighter and more relaxed style of Regency dance.

Alongside these ticketed highlights, the week features a wide range of talks, walks and special events exploring Jane Austen’s life and the history of the area. These include:

  • A Local Historian’s Walk Through Chawton, exploring buildings and people connected with Jane Austen and her family.

  • Teatime Discussion of Sanditon, part of the festival’s popular series of informal literary discussions.

  • Author Talk: “Jane Austen’s Favourite Brother, Henry”, examining the life of Henry Austen and his influence on his sister’s career.

  • A Walk in Jane Austen’s Alton, a guided tour highlighting locations connected with the author during her time in the town.

  • “Jane Austen’s Heroines”, a talk exploring the characters at the heart of her novels.

  • Dine Like Jane Austen – a Regency Supper, an evening of Regency-inspired dining hosted by Caroline Jane Knight, Jane Austen’s fifth great-niece.

One of the most popular highlights of the week is Alton Regency Day on Saturday 20 June, a free town-centre celebration featuring market stalls, horse-drawn carriage rides, folk dancing, historical re-enactments and visitors dressed in Regency costume.

Jane Austen Regency Week has become a much-loved annual event, celebrating the town’s connection with one of England’s most famous authors while bringing history to life for visitors of all ages.
