A talk by Hazel Mills. We all know that Jane was read by famous people like the Prince Regent, Sir Walter Scott and Alfred Lord Tennyson, but who else has owned and read Jane's books? Using the fascinating inscriptions in copies of Jane's novels that I own, I have researched the lives of their owners. These books date from 1833 through to the early 20th century and some of the editions themselves are interesting in themselves. The owners vary incredibly, from landed gentry, American socialites, school teachers, servants, World War One nurses and suffragettes.
